A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Navrongo have locked up the offices of the Youth Employment Agency in the Kasena Nankana Municipality.

According to the youth group, the coordinator who has been appointed to manage the agency in the district is not a native of Navrongo so he cannot be made to head the outfit because there are other competent people from Navrongo who can do the job.

Confirming the Story to A1 Radio’s Azongo Albert on Day Break Upper East Show, the Municipal Coordinator Kennedy Atule said the action of the group came as a surprise to him because there has not been any sense of acrimony from any group since he took over in August 2015. He explained that no reasons were given him by the group for asking him to vacate the office. Rather, the group only ordered him to leave the office because he did not hail from Navrongo.

“I was in my office on Monday when a group of Youth came and told me to vacate the office because I am not from Navrongo so I cannot be made the coordinator of the agency. I just simply obeyed and packed my things to leave the office and they locked the offices with their own padlocks,” he said.

He mentioned that he contacted his Regional boss upon whose advice he reported the matter at the district police station.

Mr. Kennedy Atule was of the view that the Youth Employment Agency was a public office and that his employment was not made based on his tribe but rather on the merit of his qualification so they (the youth) do not have any justification for their actions.

This is however not the first time a youth group have besieged a public office and locked it up in the Upper East region.

Last year a similar incident happened in the Nabdam district when the youth of the district locked District Assembly offices because the Assembly had failed to employ the youth of the area.

Efforts to reach leadership of the group have been unsuccessful.
