The past few weeks have seen series of campaign launch by parliamentary candidates of the governing National Democratic Congress and the opposition New Patriotic Party across Ghana’s constituencies.

In the Upper East Region, this weekend alone has witnessed two campaign launches – Navrongo central by incumbent MP, Mark Woyongo and Garu constituency’s incumbent MP, David Adakurugu; all on Saturday October 15. Today is the turn of Isaac Adongo.

In what is believed to be a smart political strategy, Isaac Adongo, NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central constituency has chosen Sumbrungu for his campaign launch.

Sumbrungu is the largest and populated town after Bolgatanga in the Bolgatanga Central constituency. It is the hometown of Rex Asanga, the parliamentary candidate of the opposition NPP. With Bolgatanga fast becoming a cosmopolitan town, Sumbrungu will be the deciding town in the constituency between Rex and Isaac.

The choice of Mr. Adongo to launch his campaign in Sumbrungu will give Mr. Asanga an idea of his perceived popularity in his hometown where his support over the years is felt and seen by the people.

While Mr. Adongo rides on the popularity of the governing NDC to retain the Bolgatanga seat being occupied by his party man, Opam-Brown Akulbire, Mr. Asanga counts on his interventions in the areas of education, trade and vocation as his legacy enough to win the seat.

Bolgatanga constituency is a stronghold of the NDC and the party will not leave anything to chance to maintain that pride. Meanwhile, Mr. Asanga of the NPP and Thomas Akurugu of the People’s National Convention are poised to give the incumbent party and its parliamentary candidate a stiff competition.

In the Chiana-Paga constituency, Rudolf Amega-Ego is also launching his campaign today.
