Public Relations Officer of the Association of citizens who hail from Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo and Talensi Districts of the Upper-East Region (BONABOTO), Stanley Abopam, has asked President John Dramani Mahama, to show where his government built a new Upper East Regional hospital or else, apologise to the people of the region for throwing dust into their eyes.

President John Dramani Mahama during the his last State of the Nation Address on Thursday, January 5, said in his effort to improve access to quality health care, the NDC government had built a Regional hospital in Bolgatanga for the People of Upper East.

But speaking on A1Radio’s Day-Break Upper East Show, Stanley Abopam, in his personal capacity, expressed surprise at why the President mentioned that, his government had put up a Regional hospital for the people in the Upper East Region, when in reality there is no Regional Hospital in the area.

According to him, unlike other hospitals which were built during President John Dramani Mahama’s reign, from scratch, the Bolgatanga hospital had it walls broken down, expanded and have not been furnished, as compared to the hospitals he mentioned across the country.

The President mentioned ridge, then he mentioned the Legon hospital, then he mentioned the Upper West hospitals, then he mentioned the Upper East Hospital. If you look at the other hospitals he mentioned, they have been built from the scratch, they have been built wholly and completely. You come to Upper East, pull down some sections of the old hospital and then you put up just walls; there are no beds, there are no equipment, there is nothing and you say you have built a Regional hospital.

Mr. Abopam mentioned that, the on-going project at the Bolgatanga hospital, is not funded by the Government of Ghana and the President should not take credit for that.

The BONABOTO P.R.O, questioned where the President had built the hospital saying “is it that one building he calls the Regional hospital, or the President has built a hospital somewhere and we don’t know?”

Calling on the President to apologise to the people of Upper East Region, Mr. Abopam mentioned that, he will not entirely blame the President, but leaders of the Upper East Region, who he described as “absentee leaders” who call themselves leaders of the Region.

I think the President should apologise to the people of the Upper East Region that, he wanted to build a Regional hospital for the people of the Upper East Region in his second tenure; because he had promised to build a Regional hospital for the people. But I will not blame him entirely, I am sure he was misinformed by our absentee leaders who call themselves our leaders.”
