Over the years, craft producers in mostly the Northern part of Ghana have suffered from the lack of managerial, business ideas and fair trade practices. Due to this, they produce on a small scale and are sometimes shortchanged by middlemen who work for their own parochial interest.

For this reason, TradeAid Integrated has introduced the Sustaining the craft industry in Bolgatanga (SUSCRIB). The two year project seeks to build the managerial, business and Fair trade practices of 245 craft producers in and around Bolgatanga so as to see craft work as a sustainable source of livelihood.

The project seeks to ensure that craft weavers produce new crafts that meets local and international standards and in doing so also provide environmental and biodiversity conservation through responsible production.

The project will be carried out by organizing several worshops and training seminars for the targeted producers who will have the opportunity to work with TradeAid Integrated on the Bolgatanga International Crafts and Arts Fair which affords craft producers in the Upper East region the opportunity to exhibit their craft.

It is expected that at the end of this project, there will be an improvement in the quality of handicrafts produced in Bolgatanga and also that the craft industry will be sustained as a viable alternative to rain fed agriculture.
