Presbyterian Health Service- North (PHS-N) has inaugurated twelve men and two women as Area Board Members to pursue the welfare and development of its Health institutions.

The area Board has responsibility for the effective functioning of the Presbyterian Health Service- North (PHS-N) and all its institutions, programmes and projects.

The Area Board is responsible to the Committee on Health and Environment (CHE) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Accra, through the National Health Coordinator, and it is required to submit quarterly reports on the PHS-N and on Area Board activities to the CHE.

Mr. Fred Effah- Yeboah, General Manager of the Presbyterian Health Service-North and now a Member of the Area Board in his speech expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by the former Area Board and other stakeholders in improving Presbyterian Health Service.

He also requested the new Board to employ the formal, legal and rational approach in its dealings with management to promote mutual trust and to enhance morale at all levels.

“It is worth mentioning that since that time to today, much energy and Sacrifices amidst turbulence has led to an expanded, Presbyterian Health Service- North with twenty two constituent institutions and programmes in the North,”

According to Mr. Yeboah, the individual members who have been called upon to serve on the Board as institutional representatives should use their presence on the Area Board to improve the relationship of their various institutions and the Presbyterian Health Service- North.

On his part, Dr. Kofi Issah, the Upper East Regional Director of Health Service, congratulated Presbyterian Health Service- North for their wonderful support to humanity, especially the Bawku Presbyterian hospital which is located in a strategic corner of the country providing care to over half a million people in terms of peace and humanitarian emergencies.

According the Dr. Issah, the focus of the board in providing oversight for the health services might have to take cognizance of the difficulties in financing of health care in the country, especially with a drying of resources from abroad and the erratic and delayed payment systems under the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“It is incumbent on the board to provide guidance for more innovative and efficient resource Mobilization and utilization strategies to meet the objectives of the board and the mandate of the health service,”

He indicated that human resources for health remains a challenge as the complexity of health care demands more highly skilled staff who are scarce to get and difficult to maintain in our economically deprived part of the country.

Rev. Daniel Kofi Asante, Director of Development and Social Services Presbyterian Church of Ghana who represented the Moderator of General Assembly PCG, urged the new Area Board to put up their best in improving the current status of the Presbyterian Health Service-North.

However, he assured the Presbyterian Health Service-North that Presbyterian Church of Ghana will do its best to support the activities of the new Area Board to help them deliver effectively.
