Maiden graduation ceremony for students who enrolled for diploma in Arabic language at the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) was held in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.

The 45 graduates making up of 37 male and 8 female have undergone a two year intensive Arabic language studies to unable them progress beyond the Arabic school certificates they had acquired earlier.

English language which is an integral examinable subject of the program seeks to solve the problem of English language deficiency which was discovered as a challenge with the beneficiaries.

The graduates are mostly from Zongo communities, a Muslim dominated community in the country. It is against this backdrop that Benjamin Gbeglo, Head of GIL, Tamale campus, at a short graduation ceremony held at the regional central mosque was optimistic that the graduates will contribute their quota in the Zongo community to contribute meaningfully to the national effort.

Speaking on the Inner-City and Zongo Development ministry, Mr. Gbeglo is hopeful that the graduates will “fit in so well, if not perfectly, with [the] Government’s policy and resolve to bring unbridled development to the Zongo community.”

Upper East regional minister, Rockson Bukari who graced the ceremony was glad that the program has come to help improve Arabic education in the region and the country as a whole.

The minister on the occasion urged the graduates to use the language they have learnt to teach Muslims to “understand the meaning of the Holy Quran and that would be the surest way to fighting Jihad with your knowledge and not with arms”
