The Free SHS policy by the governing New Patriotic Party started today although some students have not been placed to various schools in the country.

In the Upper East region, first year students from the various Junior High Schools in and out of the region trooped in to the various schools in order to report to school.

The A1 Radio news team visited some schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality to ascertain whether students faced some challenges in their bid to register in the various schools they had been placed in.

Christopher Asima who visited the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School said while some students had trooped in to the schools premises to report for the start of the academic year, some came to check the notice board to be sure that they had been posted to the school.

Christopher Asima indicated that the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School is admitting a little over four Hundred students but added that the School was willing to admit more students.

Christopher mentioned that the authorities of the school said they have the logistics and materials to help in the smooth implementation of the policy.

At the Zamse Senior High School, the registration process had stalled because the computer “system” of the school was down. Although authorities were working round the clock to restore the system in order to facilitate the process, their efforts proved futile.

Some parents had come to plead with the headmaster to admit their wards because they had been placed in school they described as “ghost schools”.

At the Bolgatanga Senior High School, seven hundred and eight students have been admitted into six courses. However, some students who spoke to the news team said they were there to change their courses because they were given courses they never selected.

Although some students had reported to start the academic year, some of the students had come to check if their names had been posted on the school’s notice board.
