A member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team in the Upper East region, Samuel Akonka has said threats by the various Private Senior High Schools in the country to lay off staff is “needless and very useless”.

Private Schools in the country have threatened to lay off their because government failed to include them in the consultation process and the implementation of its free SHS policy.

According to them, their schools have not been able to admit students for this academic year because government has absorbed almost all the students into the various public senior high schools in the country and therefore they are challenged.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East, Samuel Akonka said their threats are empty threats ad government does not need to heed to them.

According to him, the private schools are business ventures and therefore do not need the support of government to the running of their schools.

He indicated that government is implementing the Free SHS at a tortoise pace in order to sustain it and therefore there is no need for government to assist private schools in the country.

Samuel Akonka called on successive government after the NPP government should always focus on helping to sustain the policy in the country.
