Some Private Schools in the Upper East regional capital, have called on government to have a rethink of the Free SHS policy to include Private schools.

Government, at the beginning of this academic year implemented its much touted policy, Free SHS in order to allow for all Ghanaians of High School going age to have access to education without any cost.

However, the implementation of the Policy has had a negative toll of Private Senior High Schools which enrollment has fallen drastically.

Some selected Private schools in the Upper East regional capital, Bolgatanga that spoke to A1 Radio on the station’s ‘Reporters Visit’ acknowledged that the Free SHS policy is a laudable policy but insists that government failed in including Private Schools.

According to them, it was imperative that government considered Private schools in the implementation of the policy since they also play key roles in the education system of the country.

At Golden Step International School, some authorities who spoke to A1 Radio’s Joshua Asaah indicated that the school has received only five students out of fifteen admission forms that were picked up.

According to them, with the uninspiring school number of students received this year, the school may consider laying off some teaching and non-teaching staff in order to cut off some financial burden.

Officials at the school indicated that hitherto the school used to open for admissions only some few months but the school has decided to open for admission till next year.

They appealed with government to as a matter of urgency include Private schools in the free SHS programme in order for the Private sector to also grow.
