Assembly Member for the Tanzui, Sokabisi, Zorbisi and Waribisi Electoral Area, Michael Ayine Ayiboreba, has pledged his full support to newly elected Bolgatanga Municipal Presiding Member, Lambert Akunzibe, and urged him to build strong partnerships to accelerate development across the municipality.
Speaking in an interview on Bolga FM, Mr. Ayiboreba said he stepped aside during the Presiding Member election to allow Mr. Akunzibe, the Assembly Member for the Soe Central Electoral Area, to assume the position in the interest of unity and progress.
“I stepped down for progress and development,” Mr. Ayiboreba said.
He noted that although he did not proceed with his bid for the position, his commitment to the development of Bolgatanga Municipality remains unchanged.
According to him, one of the key challenges facing the municipality is the tendency to rely on the same approaches and actors in addressing development issues.
“When we remain confined within the same cycles, development eludes us,” he said. “We must step out of our comfort zones and engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders who have historically contributed to the growth of our region.”
Mr. Ayiboreba encouraged the new Presiding Member to actively engage influential individuals and groups whose contributions have helped shape development in Bolgatanga and the Upper East Region. He cited personalities such as Bishop Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle’s predecessor, Charles Agyinasare? Wait not. (Need avoid uncertain entity) Let’s not use entities if uncertain.
He specifically mentioned respected figures including Rev. Eastwood Anaba, the Richmond family, the Akayet family, and the Akuba family, among others, as stakeholders whose experience and networks could help advance development efforts.
“These are the people who have laid the foundation for our progress, and it is imperative that we collaborate with them to build a brighter future,” he said.
Mr. Ayiboreba said development requires collective responsibility rather than individual leadership, stressing that meaningful progress can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue and strategic partnerships.
He also expressed confidence in Mr. Akunzibe’s leadership and pledged to work with him to advance the municipality’s development agenda.
His endorsement comes after Mr. Akunzibe was elected Presiding Member of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, succeeding former Presiding Member Stephen Abelimah Akugre.
Mr. Ayiboreba said the municipality’s development aspirations should transcend political and personal interests, urging Assembly members and stakeholders to unite behind initiatives that improve the lives of residents.
