The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has reiterated its call for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the transformation of the country.

In bridging the developmental gap of the country, the party believes that people at the local level should be given the mandate to elect persons to head the various assemblies. Founder of the party Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum said this in Bolgatanga during the party’s 4th National Convention.

According to Dr. Ndoum, gone are the days when “people in Accra take monies meant for the district assemblies, spend it in Accra according to Accra’s priorities.”

The 2016 flagbearer of the party is of the view that Ghanaians can equally elect MMDCEs as it is done at the district assembly level up to the office of the president.

Citing countries that elect mayors, the business guru said “it is time for Ghanaians to take the power back from the center in Accra and elect people of their own choice so that it shouldn’t be up to somebody in Accra to say to the people in Elmina that 1 district 1 dam. We may not need a dam, we may need something else and that decision must be made by the people of Elmina”

Dr. Nduom used the opportunity to thank party supporters for promoting the party ideologies during the 2016 elections.

He admonished Ghanaians to give the party a chance to transform the country in 2020.

“I am very confident that soon and very soon the Progressive People’s Party will enjoy victory. When the PPP gets to the flagstaff house, Ghanaians will see wonders”
