The wife of the Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga (name withheld) and a renowned pastor in Bolgatanga, Prophet Joseph Billa are the latest victims of armed robbery attacks in the Upper East Regional capital.

Armed robbery attacks and motorbike snatching now seem to be on the increase in Bolgatanga as suspects will go at full length to inflict wounds on their targets and at times take their lives before bolting with their valuable items. This is sometimes done in broad day light.

Three of such robbery attacks took place in Bolgatanga at different locations in the evening of Sunday October 22, 2017. TopNews Ghana gathered that the wife of the MCE, was attacked around the Mount Sinai School junction. Although her assailants could not take away her motorbike, they succeeded in running off with her handbag.

According to sources, money and other valuables belonging to the woman were later found around Zamse Senior High Technical School junction, few miters away from where she was robbed.

Another robbery case recorded the same night involved a well-known pastor, Prophet Joseph Billan of Amazing Power Ministry. Prophet Billa was attacked and robbed at gun point by a group of gun men on his way back from Yorogo in the Bolgatanga municipality at about 9:00pm.

Recounting his ordeal on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio, Prophet Billa said while driving home from Yorogo, two gun men on a motorbike crossed him and when he stopped, they pointed a gun at his forehead at a very close range and demanded money from him.

He said after giving out the money to them, the robbers searched through his car and removed all that they were interested in before advancing to rape a lady who was then in his company. He said it was at this point that he fought back to rescue the lady.

According to him, while he was fighting back, the lady escaped and ran into nearby houses. After few minutes of struggling with the robbers, Prophet Billa said he raised an alarm and by the time residents could come to his assistance, the robbers had disappeared with their belongings.

Superintendent Samuel Punobyin, Bolgatanga Municipal Police Commander on Monday confirmed to TopNews Ghana that the two personalities had lodged official reports at the police station and investigations have commenced.

He however, denied media reports that robbery cases are on the increase.

Meanwhile, information available to TopNews Ghana indicates another woman was robbed on the same day (Sunday night) and her motorbike and handbag containing money, mobile phones and other personal effects snatched from her. Aside losing her personal belongings, the woman also almost had her ear slashed off in what is believed to be her attempt to fight back in the process of the attack.
She was rushed to the regional hospital in Bolgatanga for treatment.
