The Bolgatanga Municipal President of the National Service Personnel Association, Atanga Michael has said the current crop of executives in the Municipality will resist attempts by the National Service Secretariat to impose a compulsory Insurance policy on personnel.

According to him, several people under the National Service Scheme have Insurance policies and are not interested in the Insurance the secretariat is trying so hard to impose on them.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Samuel Mbura on the station’s flagship programme, ‘Daybreak Upper East’, Atanga indicated that the secretariat failed to consult the current personnel of the move even though it had the opportunity to do so during the national orientation which took place before they started their service.

Although Atanga is not aware if the Secretariat consulted his predecessors, he believes that ” we are going to experience this Insurance scheme so even if they consulted the previous administration, they should have also consulted us and be sure that we are interested in the policy before they introduce it”.

The National Service Secretariat yesterday launched Insurance scheme for personnel under the service. Under the scheme, National service personnel who suffer permanent or temporary disability through accidents during the service year will now be entitled to GH¢15,000 insurance cover. The next of kin of service persons who die while undertaking the mandatory national exercise, will receive the same amount from Glico Life.

The Executive Director of the NSS, Mr Ussif Mustafa, explained that all service personnel would pay a monthly premium of GH¢15 to benefit from the insurance package.
