The Bongo District in the Upper East region has as of November 2017 recorded fifty-nine cases of HIV infection.

This was disclosed by the District Chief Executive of the District, Peter Ayimbisa at a joint commemoration of the 33rd farmers’ Day and the World HIV/AIDS Day held at Sabo-Bongo.

He indicated that available statistics at the district health directorate indicates that by the end of November this year, out of 83 persons who were tested, 50 were found to be positive while 9 new born babies to HIV/AIDS mothers were also tested positive.

He said the numbers is a source of  worry to the small district, individuals and and public-spirited organizations.

The DCE noted that there was the need to tackle the situation in order to arrest it else the district risks setbacks in the future and therefore called on all stakeholders to join in the fight against the deadly disease.

“If the situation is not tackled seriously, we might lose a significant number of our workforce in the next fifteen years.”
