The several robbery attacks last week in Basuende and Wuriyanga in the Garu Tempane District has left residents of the District in a state of fear.
It will be recalled that last week, a1radioonline.com reported of a broad daylight robbery attack on GN Bank at Wuriyanga, carried out by four gunmen who shot and killed one person. Before that attack, a similar attack at Badoo had claimed the live of person.
There was an attack on a mobile money merchant believed to be by the same same group that attacked the GN Bank.
Though the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yao Tetegah who confirmed those attacks last week said no arrest was made, he assured the police were on a manhunt for the suspects and would surely arrest them.
One week on, however, the police are yet to make any arrest.
The District Chief Executive of Garu-Tempane who doubles as the Chairman of the District Security Council, Emmanuel Asore Avoka, in an interview on Monday, said the people in the district currently live in fear and what worsens their fear is the inability of the security agencies to make any arrest regardless of the several attacks.
He said “I think a couple of days or close to a week now, the entity of Garu-Tempeane in terms of the citizenry, have been living in fear and panic as a result of the entry of four wielding gunmen on two motorbikes that attacked the GN Bank at one of the communities in my district; known as Wuriyanga, a business town in my district”.
He indicated that “Unfortunately, as I speak with you, I have not got any concrete information with regards to the identity of these well-built young men who carried out this very bad action at the bank.”
Mr. Asore explained that after the attack on the GN Bank, the Garu police contacted their counterparts at the Togo border to be on the lookout for the suspects but when the Togolese police eventually spotted them attempting to cross into Togo, they chased them but, they ran back and passed through the Nakpanduri escapements where they police finally lost sight of them.
The DCE was however hopefully with the collaboration the Garu and Bawku police are enjoying from their counterparts in Togo, they will surely apprehend the suspects and let them face the law.
