The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has arrived in the country after staying away in the United Kingdom on sick leave.
The Vice President was flown to the United Kingdom on January 22 when his doctors advised him to take a sick leave after he took ill.
The move to fly him out of the country was heavily criticized by members of the opposition, National Democratic Congress who thought the Vice President could have sough medical care in the country.
However, the Information Minister who defended government’s move to fly the Vice President and his wife out of the country said he was flown out to avoid visitor and offer him the opportunity to rest.
The Vice President after twelve days of being away has finally arrived in Ghana where he was met by Ministers of State, the Chief of Staff and the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
There was spontaneous applause, as the Vice President alighted from the President’s vehicle, walking beside the President, looking hale and hearty, waving back at the crowd gathered, whilst exchanging pleasantries as he was ushered into the Presidential Lounge.
The President and Vice President spent some 30 minutes catching up with each other at the receiving room of the Jubilee Lounge in the company of the First and Second Ladies of the Republic.
