Former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings has said if the opposition National Democratic Congress is working to come back to power just to release people who have cause financial loss to the state, then the party i laying a foundation to stay in opposition for a very longtime.

His comments comes on the back of former Sports Minister and Member of Parliament for Ododiodo constituency’s comments that the NDC when it regains power in 2020 will pardon Abuga Pele who has been jailed six years for causing financial loss to the state.

The former President indicated that “stealing and corruption puts no one above the law. Those who have committed crimes deserve to be punished”.

“fortunately, this kind of talk belongs to a handful of people in the NDC leadership who have gained power and influence they do not deserve and the sooner they are packed off, the better for the NDC and this country,” the former President said while asking for Nii Lantey and his likes to be sacked from the party.

He warned that “If the quest for political power is to release wrongdoers from prison, then the NDC is laying its own foundation to remain in opposition for a long long time”.
