Host of Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio, Samuel Mbura, has condemned statements made by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, to  ” shoot to kill” illegal miners  on site and has  asked that he apologize to Ghanaians.

According to the host, although he does not support the menace, he believes such extreme dimensions are not the right way  to go in the country’s fight against illegal mining.

He described the statement and suggestions of the legislator as having the tendencies of inciting the “killing of illegal miners in communities rife with illegal mining activities.

“What the First Deputy Speaker said can result in the killing of illegal miners in communities where there are illegal mining activities. We will begin to hear gunshots in those communities since miners may also decide to mobilize against that. Don’t also be surprised when the minds of these security agencies are psyched as a result of that statement he made” He said.

Joseph Osei Owusu came under intense backlash from Ghanaians after he pushed for power to be given to security agencies to shoot those involved in illegal mining popularly called ‘galamsey’.

The Bekwai Member of Parliament who is obviously fed-up with the activities of the illegal miners said if he had his own way, he would have set up a law that will empower the security agencies to shoot people engaged in illegal mining once seen on site.
