The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo has said the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia lied when he promised that the government will construct 570 dams this year.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is reported to have promised the people of Tumu over the weekend that government was committed to constructing 570 dams before the rainny season starts this year.

The Vice President indicated that several consultative fora have been held and all was set for the construction of the dams in the Upper East, West and Northern Regions.

He indicated that the construction of the dams was an indication of the Akufo-Addo led government’s commitment to the development of agriculture in the country.

But speaking to Accra-based Okay FM, Isaac Adongo indicated that the Vice President lied to the people of Tumu.

According to him, the 2018 budget earmarked hundred 100 dams to be constructed and therefore it came as a surprise to him that the Vice President could go to Tumu to lie to the Chiefs and people of Tumu.

He questioned where the Vice President was going to finance the extra dams since the approved budget earmarked hundred dams to be constructed.

“Go and take the budget for 2018 and check the budget for Special Initiative projects and look under One Village on Dam. They said they will construct 100 dams with each dams costing six hundred and sixty thousand. So Bawumia, which budget did you bring to Parliament that said you will construct 570 dams? Are you going to steal the rest of the money for constructing the dam? How can you go to the people of Tumu and look at their faces and lie to them?”.

He asked the Vice President to be truthful in his utterances to the people for Ghanaians to be aware of the real state of the country.
