President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufi-Addo on his first day of his working visit to the Upper East Region, cut sod for the construction of the Bongo-Balungu-Namoo road in the Bongo District.

The construction of the 8 km road also includes the construction of a major bridge which had its edges washed off rendering the road inaccessible especially during the rainy season. The road links Bongo to neighbouring Burkina Faso but since the defects on the bridge, travelers to and from Burkina Faso have resorted to alternative routes.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Bongo after cutting the sod, President Akufo-Addo, said the contractor has been given one year to complete the project and promised to return to Bongo next year to commission the road.

He also inspected the construction of one the dams under construction as part of One Village One Dam Programme at Anyupia, also in the Bongo District.

The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Leyamruum, commended the president for fulfilling some of his major campaign promises such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School Education One Village One Dam Programme among others.

In the Bongo District, two dams out of the initial eight dams awarded under One Village One Dam Programme have already been constructed and works ongoing on the remaining dams.

The President continues with his visit to Navrongo and Sandema areas on Friday.
