Delegates of the Upper East Region branch of the Distance Education Students Association of Ghana (DESAG) on Sunday, September 30 voted a level 400 student of the University of Cape Coast, Atinga Micheal Adombire as its new Regional President.

Atinga Micheal Adombire a new entrant, contested with Ambrose Yambire and Azure Cletus Ayambila both former Executives of DESAG – Upper East Region, for the position.

Other Regional DESAG Executives include, Felix Abugre who was elected the Vice President, Theophilus Azure Samuel the Regional Secretary, and Ayinne Michael Ayeporeba the Regional Organizer.

Awara James Atubiga is the Regional Sports Organizer, Abiiro Raymond is the Regional Financial Secretary, Osman Mariam was elected the Women Commissioner, Nsobuno Paul is the Welfare Officer and Ebo Bruce-Quansah the Public Relations Officer.

The Outgoing Upper East Regional DESAG President, Veneranda Tibiru Wematu in an interview with a1radioonline.com was happy with the turn out and urged the new Executives to work hard to encourage more members of the Association at all four Study Centres to be interested in all DESAG activities.

According to her, DESAG in Upper East Region has a huge membership, but due to lack of funds, many of the activities earmarked for the 2017-2018 Academic year could not be achieved and hope the new Executives will have funding to carry out DESAG activities and to attract all members from all four Study Centres (in Bolgatanga, Navrongo, Zebilla).

“Am happy we had a peaceful election and fortunately all the people elected for the various Regional Executive positions are very capable. I only pray that, they unite and work together to move DESAG forward and make it loud and visible in the Upper East Region.” Madam Veneranda Tibiru noted.

Chairman of the Election Committee and Administrator at the Upper East Regional Office of the College of Distance Education(CoDE) Nicholas Nkrumah said DESAG is the mouth piece of the students body of CoDE and urged the newly elected Regional Executives to live up to that mandate to ensure a peaceful relationship between students and CoDE of the University of Cape Coast.

Mr. Nkrumah, like the outgoing Regional DESAG President, was also happy with the turn out (since past elections have had low turn outs) and urged students to always show interest in the existence and growth of the Association, so as to empower the Executives to work hard and also make them accountable.
