The visit of “Barima-Ba” Captain Solomon Quainoo to his alma mater, Koforidua Secondary Technical School in the Eastern Region of Ghana, will remain on the minds of many of the current students undergoing training there.

His life story at the School and at home, as shared during his visit, will be a source of motivation and inspiration for many poor students at Sec-Tech (as popularly known), to keep fighting and moving towards a brighter day(future).

For others, they will just be happy to have seen and probably felt the Ghanaian Pilot who flew the world’s biggest passenger Aircraft, Emirates A380 to Accra on Tuesday October 2, to mark the opening of the Kotoka International Airport Terminal 3.

Like it is said in Ghana, “Obra ni warabor” (Your life is how you make it), meaning, to a large extend our success or failures depend on us, except in very few cases.

On Wednesday, October 3, “Barima-Ba” Captain Solomon Quainoo in the company of some Old Students of Koforidua Secondary Technical School, visited the school, for two main reasons, to visit the school that contributed to his success and to inspire the current students there.

As expected, he urged the students at the School to be focused on their dreams and aspirations in life and work hard to achieve these beautiful and great dreams.

“Once you can dream it, you can achieve it. Today, I am who am, because I dreamt of this and I worked hard and with the support of family and friends, I have achieved it.” “Barima-Ba” Captain Quainoo said.

According to him, he suffered alot, while growing up, and times were difficult, while his dream of becoming a Pilot kept dwindling at some points, but he kept hope alive and kept studying and working hard towards his dream and never gave up on becoming a Pilot.

Today he is a Pilot with 14 years career experience; flying the world’s biggest passenger Aircraft, Emirates A380 to Accra, for the first time, to confirm Ghana’s readiness to accommodate bigger aircrafts at the Kotoka International Airport.

“At age 6 old I saw a plane and I wanted to be a pilot. It was not an easy path, coming from a poor family. There were lots of challenges, but I remained determined and kept pushing forward and working hard.” “Barima-Ba” Captain Quainoo disclosed.

Recounting activities of his early days, “Barima-Ba” Captain Quainoo said his family was not rich and due to their economic status, he had to sleep in one room with five other boys and endured to challenges that came with it.

According to him, many other painful events happened his early days and faced severe hardship, but was determined to become a Pilot, despite the challenges, saying “… sometimes we are starved, we go hungry, but you see your friends eating and progressing and I said to myself, why don’t I forget this and go do something else, but I challenged myself and never competed with anyone,”

Even financing his education to become a Pilot was not easy and yet he did not give up, despite the challenges.

On Wednesday, October 3, while at Sec-Tech Captain Quainoo kept looking round, probably trying to imagine how far he had come.

For years, his name will be mentioned as being the Pilot who flew the world’s biggest passenger Aircraft, Emirates A380 to Ghana for the first time, and Sec-Tech will always be mentioned as being among the schools that helped in moulding him into a Pilot.

For serious students undergoing some harsh conditions and others challenges associated with congestion, due to the increased number of students at the Senior High School, they will be motivated that, with determination and hard work they will succeed despite the challenges.
