“Make time to screen your breast” – Women seeking career and academic advancement told

The month of October is considered the Breast Care month, for which reason various activities are lined up in this month, to create awareness of Breast Care and the effects of Breast Cancers on individuals, families and communities.

There are also activities to sensitize communities, especially women, to get screened and to engage in practices that could lead to prevention of Breast Cancer. Usually the emphasis is on early detection and treatment, as well as palliative care of this disease.

The Women’s Commissioner elect of the Upper East Region branch of the Distance Education Students Association (DESAG), Mariam Osman in an interview with A1-Radio in Bolgatanga, called on all women to endeavour to get their breasts checked at least once in this month of October and another session before the end of the year 2018.

She urged women pursuing academic and career advancement to pay a special attention to their health and especially breast care in other to stay healthy while they combine learning with work or home management.

“I know we are under pressure from work, from school and from home; it is not easy when you are involved in activities in all three areas. Many women are stressed up and therefore making their lives difficult. Despite these pressures, we have to make some time to check our Health and especially breast care. I wish that, we will all be well, in order to have a sound mind to learn and work and manage our homes.” Miss Mariam Osman said.

Even though there is not enough information on the real causes of Breast Cancer, it is believed that early detection of the condition or symptoms is the best means of preventing and controlling Breast Cancer in Ghana and around the world.

It is also believed that, there is a link between stress and development of Breast Cancer and so it is advised that, women find innovative ways of managing all sectors of their lives with ease and little stress.

So far, Breast Cancer is considered the most common cancer in women across the world, affecting women in both developed and developing countries.

Early this month, there was a Breast Care Awareness walk in Tamale in the Northern region by the Breast Care International and a breast screening exercise in Bolgatanga by Women and Girls Health Organization on October 13, a day that is popularly referred to as “No Bra” Day.
