Anti “One Village, One Dam” Propaganda in Bongo is Irresponsible

A leading member of the Peoples’ National Convention in the Upper East region, Johnson Ayine says it is irresponsible for anyone or group to attribute some drowning cases in the Bongo district to the One Village, One Dam Programme.

According to him, people have died as a result of drowning in some dams and other water bodies in the past and so for anyone or group to make it look as though the recent drowning cases recorded at the sites of some on-going dam construction is unfortunate.

So far, three persons have lost their lives after they had fallen into some dams being constructed under government’s One Village, One Dam in Bongo. The District Chief Executive, Peter Ayinbisa and others have since met and consoled all affected families and educated their communities to be careful around the dams, since they are yet to be completed.

Johnson Ayine was speaking on A1Radio’s ‘Day Break Upper East’ on Tuesday, October 16 with Samuel Mbura, in Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East region.

He said some persons are making it look as though the on-going construction of dams under the One Village, One Dam, is the worst thing to even happen in the Bongo District.

According to him, the dams when completed will serve the people of the district immensely, and instead of finding every means to sabotage the construction works, the people spreading bad news and ridiculing the initiative, should rather encourage government to invest more.

“Children went playing and fell inside the dam, should we blame the Contractor? We are doing political propaganda with it because of the One Village, One Dam. They say people are dying because of this programme. If you go to Bongo, the existing dams have claimed lives before. Should we go and say we are going to reclaimed the land and cover the dams because people have died.” Johnson Ayine said.
