Former Deputy Information Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayeribi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has confirmed a long standing public suspicion and doubt, to be true.

He has revealed that, he was a card bearing member of the New Patriotic Party at the time he co-hosted an Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Presidential Debate with Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang, ahead of the 2012 General Elections.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah made the revelation during his vetting session with the Appointment Committee of Ghana’s Parliament on October 26.

If the Committee finds him capable after the vetting, he will be cleared to occupy the position of the substantive Information Minister.

Even though Kojo Oppong Nkrumah did not show any sign of being bias towards the NPP Flagbearer then, Nana Akufo-Addo, neither did he prove to be unnecessarily difficult towards John Daramani Mahama, people have doubted his political neutrality at the time he was co-hosting the IEA Presidential debate.

And when he announced his decision to contest for the Ofoase-Ayeribi Parliamentary Seat in 2016, the question over when he joined the Party came up, causing the doubt and suspicion to intensify.

On Friday, October 25, the Information Minister designate confirmed that as back as 2012, he was a card bearing member of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

It is not clear if Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang was also a card bearing member of the National Democratic Congress at the time she co-hosted the IEA Presidential debate in 2012.

Meanwhile Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been reprimanded by Members of the Appointment Committee of Parliament during the vetting, for starting work as though he was a substantive Minister, even before he was vetted or cleared, as capable of handling the Ministry of Information.
