Upper East Minister designate optimistic that, the construction of the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam will curb the perennial flooding

The Upper East Regional Minister designate, Ambassador Paulina Abayage says, the best remedy to curb the perennial flooding with its associated casualties in the Northern part of Ghana is to invest into the construction of the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam.

Speaking during her vetting session, Ambassador Abayage explained that, if practical measures were put in place to construct the Pwalugu dam, which has been on the drawing board since 1964, it would create jobs and generated electricity to augment the national grid.

She expressed optimism that, with her knowledge about similar irrigation and developmental projects in Burkina-Faso, she would concentrate on how to have the Pwalugu Dam constructed, for Agriculture and Electricity generation purpose.

Touching on the illegal harvesting of Rosewood in the Upper East Region, Ambassador Paulina Abayage said the wood is an attractive wood and so will require a serious attention and wide consultation and sensitisation of members and leadership of communities where these woods are found, to protect this wood.

Ambassador Paulina Patience Abayage like many other Regional Minister, has pledged to work closely with Decentralized Institutions to develop the region.

She pledged an open door administration if she is approved by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee and subsequently sworn in as a Regional Minister, and will work hard to encourage the youth in the region to venture into Entrepreneurship.

Ambassador Abayage believes that, projecting local businesses is the surest way of aiding the President’s dream of providing jobs to the teaming unemployed in the region.

Speaking about the deplorable nature of roads in the region, she promised to work closely with the Sector Minister in providing motorable roads for the region. Ambassador Abayage who was answering questions from the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, also pledged to continue from where her predecessors left in revamping the defunct Northern Star Tomato Factory and Zuarungu Meat Factory.
