Tempani Senior High School in the Upper East region remains shut following agitations by students.
The concerns of the students leading to their impromptu demonstration are that, the suspension of their Headmaster, Dominic Ndego is affecting their stay in the school and are therefore demanding his immediate reinstatement.
Confirming the incident on Daybreak Upper East, Wednesday, District Chief Executive for Tempani, Paul Azumah Abugri said the demonstration of the students was getting out of control, the reason the students were asked to go home whiles the have the issue addressed.
According to the DCE, he had information from the Assistant that, form 3 students had refuse to write their Exams and also prevented their Junior from eating breakfast on Tueday, December 11, 2018. He said the 3rd years had taken their breakfast and therefore the prevention first years from eating was the beginning of their protest against the continuous suspension of the Headmaster, Dominic Ndego.
He said the Assembly could not assure the students when their Headmaster will be coming back, because it was a Ghana Education Service decision and needed to confir with them before any assurance is given.
“As the day went by we realised the situation was deteriorating, so I quickly called the Regional Minster, the Regional Education Director and District Director of Education. …we put our heads together. Once the students have refused to do anything in the School and noise they were making and the comment they were passing, we realised that if we allowed them to be there in the night they may take advantage of the cover of darkness and destroy properties of the School.”
This could be the reason why the Tempane Senior High School was temporarily closed down on Tuesday evening.
The Headmaster’s suspension
A viral video captured in October 2018 at Tempani Senior High School in which the then National Organizer aspirant, Joshua Hamidu Akamba was seen inciting students against the President Akufo Addo, generated national discourse leading to the suspension of the Headmaster, Dominic Ndego.
He was asked to step aside for a Committee to investigate the matter and has since not been reinstated.
Meanwhile Mr. Akamba in an interview with A1 Radio said the suspension of Mr. Ndego is not fair.
