Project Coordinator of Link Community Development, Faara Joachim has added his voice to calls for children with special needs to be enrolled in schools.

According to him, children with special needs have the potential to excell academically than their colleague students described as “normal” children, hence government and education authorities should focus more attention on the education of such children.

Mr. Faara Joachim who has been sensitizing parents and traditional leaders in various communities in the Upper East Region on the need to enroll such children explained that the benefits parents will get when children with special needs are enrolled in schools are enormous.

“…without a doubt, children with special needs when enrolled in schools know very well that education is their future and will be more serious unlike other children. In my research, I have realized that few of these children whose parents have been able to enroll them in schools are academically good and are contributing directly or indirectly for their families.” He said.

He also explained that other children with special needs include refugees, Shepherd children, children with HIV/AIDS and Child labourers deserve the right to education from Government and other stakeholders as well.
