The Bolgatanga East District has witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the commissioning of its first ultramodern psychiatric and rehabilitation facility, the Blessed Home Wellness Centre. The initiative aims to address the long-term health impacts of drug abuse, mental health issues, and dental health challenges plaguing the Upper East Region.

“It is not about money. When my friend discussed with me the need for a well-equipped rehabilitation and mental health hospital in our region, I was touched. So, this project started three years ago, and today, we are here to put it to use. I don’t have enough resources, but I made sure that whatever little I had went into this project because many young people in our communities today are unable to do anything meaningful for themselves due to alcohol addiction,” said Naba Frank Isaiah Azagsiyure, Chief of Zuarungu-Kantia.

Located in the Zuarungu-Zono community, the facility is the brainchild of Chief Azagsiyure, who was inspired to establish the center after learning about the region’s growing struggles with drug abuse. He emphasized the importance of the facility, citing the alarming rate of youth addiction.

Adamu Ayamba, Psychiatric Specialist and Programs Manager at Blessed Home Wellness Centre, expressed concern over the increasing cases of addiction in the region, which often lead to severe mental health challenges.

In addition to psychiatric and rehabilitation services, the Blessed Home Wellness Centre offers General Medicine, OPD Services, Maternal and Child Health Services, a Child Welfare Clinic, Herbal Medicine, Counseling Services, and Islamic Medicine.

Speaking on behalf of the Bolgatanga East District Health Directorate, Godfred Gamson highlighted the significant role the new facility is expected to play in addressing health challenges in the district.

The Paramount Chief of the Zuarungu Traditional Area, Naba Bilea Na-maale Tinga Afegera III, along with the chief’s secretary, Samuel Aninga, urged residents of the Upper East Region to patronize the facility to help combat drug abuse and addiction.
