Chief Dental Officer, Dr. Esther Mark is advocating for government and private organizations to embark on dental care education especially in rural communities in Ghana towards reducing oral infections.

Access to dental treatment according to Dr. Mark if made available to the public can minimized dental infections.

“Government should organize more outreach programs so that people can use the Health Insurance card to pay for the services. Because, establishing a dental clinic is not cheap, it is very expensive”, Dr. Mark stated.

She said this during a free dental screening held in Teshie in the Bawku West District of Upper East Region.

The free dental screening which was organized by Haven of Love Children’s Foundation was sponsored by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation in collaboration with Smiles for Everyone Foundation.

In maintaining a healthy oral care, Dr. Mark who facilitated the dental screening exercise said the age of an individual should be considered when selecting a toothbrush.

Founder of Haven of Love Children’s Foundation, Samuel Djirackor Nana Bekai lauded the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation and its partners for extending the gesture to the people of Bawku West District.

“Everything is free of charge so I am grateful. I must also commend the donors of Haven of Love Children’s Foundation, the DCE of Bawku West and all those who are supporting us”, he indicated.

The team of dental practitioners visited some communities in the district to offer free dental services such as, dental education, screening, dental sealant services, dental treatment and provision of free dental toothbrushes.

Reverend Moses Atubiga, Head Pastor of Assemblies of God Church in Teshie who benefited the screening exercise said “I could feel that my teeth are now healthier than before.
