Former Bawku West District Chief Executive, Tahiru Issahaku Ahmed, has praised several government initiatives, including the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ program, the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program, and the School Feeding Program.

“It is the intention of the government that every child deserves a hot meal that would improve the person’s nutrition and ability to concentrate to study. Secondly to also serve as facilitation of people coming to school. So it means that school feeding is also intended to boost enrollment.”

“People have gotten employment due to school feeding. We have caterers who are working.” The former District Chief Executive also highlighted the need for review and improvement to address existing issues coupled with the implementation and management of the initiative. “I agree that it’s possible school feeding has a problem. All those problems are for us to know and review and continue to set it up until we reach the point . You cannot say that you rolled out a program and you can just have it like that, No.”

Mr. Ahmed highlighted the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ initiative as a valuable effort for poverty alleviation, noting its role in providing employment and increasing food availability. However, he acknowledged concerns about increased chemical fertilizer use.

Regarding LEAP, the former DCE emphasized its importance in supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly. He commended the government’s efforts to identify and assist these groups.

On the School Feeding Program, Mr. Ahmed stressed its dual benefits of improving children’s nutrition and encouraging school attendance. He acknowledged the program’s contribution to employment but also noted the need for ongoing review and improvement.

Looking ahead to upcoming elections, Mr. Ahmed expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will secure victory in all fifteen parliamentary seats, including Zebilla. “I am a politician and that is my wish,” he stated.
