Residents crying as Bolgatanga Assembly insists on demolishing their properties

There are indications that many families will suffer and lose their sources of livelihoods if the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly carries out its intention to pull down some stores and houses to pave way for a private investor in the Daporetindongo suburb of the municipality.

Shop owners say the assembly is being insensitive and inhuman, by giving them just two weeks to vacate their properties and are wondering what is motivating the assembly to ignore all cautions and plea.

According to them, the Assembly started marking their houses and shops with red paint, asking them to leave, without prior notice and yet, will not listen to any occupant.

Mr. Asumbono Grabiel, an affected occupant said despite the assembly giving them short notices to evict, it has refused to explain to them why such a short time and who is behind such a move.

“I for instance, have documents covering the space I occupy and my colleagues have same. I don’t see who the developer is that has powers to order the assembly to do what it is doing without seeking our views and concerns.” He said.

He said that the assembly somewhat is bias over the issue that is why it is not informing or listening to their plead as he has been there for over twenty years.

“We pay revenue all the time to the assembly and the very portion the developer is asking us to move from is not his, and documents are available to that effect.” He said.

But responding to the unfolding issue, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure Atura said the developer has all documents covering the affected portions, hence his outfit is acting accordingly.

He however assured the residents that his outfit is open and ready to assist them on their plight.
