A group supporting a National Democratic Congress aspirant in the Asawase Constituency, Mubarick Masawudu says, they will do everything possible to get their aspirant to contest the Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashante Region, Muntaka Mubarak in the party’s primaries.

Mubarick Masawudu – NDC Aspirant – Asawase Constituecny

According to the Convenor of the group (Aggrieved NDC Youth of Asawase), Fatiu Saliu there is a deliberate scheme to ensure that Mr. Masawudu is disqualified so as to get Muntaka Mubarak to go opposed in the upcoming constituency primaries, slated for August 2019.

Reacting to the situation in an interview on A1Radio’s Daybreak Upper East, Mr. Saliu said initially there was an attempt to prevent Mubarick Masawudu from picking nomination form and that is why he had to get a form from the regional level, when he was denied at the constituency level.

Mr. Saliu noted that the group is in support of participatory democracy and that is why they are pushing to ensure that Masawudu gets the opportunity contest to justify his strength in the NDC in the Asawase Constituency.

“If Masawudu is allowed to contest and Muntaka even wins, we will support him, but to impose Muntaka on us will be dangerous for the NDC in Asawase, because we will not accept it and the party’s youth in general will accept that.

If Muntaka had advised the Constituency Chairman to abide by the rules of the constitution and allowed Masawudu to pick a form, the party’s name wouldn’t have been brought into disrepute like this.” Fatiu Saliu said.

According to Mr. Saliu, there is no connection between the NDC youth and the Member of Parliament for Asawase and will be a big mistake if the constituency executives ignore all advise and impose Muntaka of the members of the party.

Mr. Saliu fears that if Muntaka is imposed the party’s members in the constituency will reject him and that will result in victory for the New Patriotic Party in the constituency.
