Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Fuseini Insuah says the main reason the Mid-year review of the 2019 budget has been postponed two times consistently was because, the Finance Minister has nothing to show to Ghanaians, if not to announce increase in taxes.

According to him, the current administration has been struggling with the country’s economy, because it has not been able to meet the revenue target for the year 2018 and the middle of the year 2019, thereby making it difficult to hold the Mid year budget review.

“It is important to note that the Finance Minister for the past months has been struggling to come out with a clear message about the financial status of the country. The point is, government has not been able to achieve it promises on revenue targets and some of the numerous campaign promises it made to the people of Ghana despite the limited resources of the country.” He added.

The Tamale Central MP noted that the Mid-year review of the 2019 budget, will only focus on how to rise taxes which will help in meeting the demands of the economy.

“The government is finding it difficult to adjust to the economy because banks are collapsing and the country’s debt stock has hit the 2 Billion mark. This indicates that if care is not taken by government and Ghanaians, the country’s debt stock will be unmanageable in the coming years. It is only the increase in taxes that can help the broken economy of the country.” He expected.

The MP who was contributing to a discussion on Radio Gold on Saturday, explained that since the NPP took office, it has lost focus and continues to be jumping for one campaign promise to another.

“The government keeps on jumping from one campaign project to another like a grasshopper without focusing on one thing. Just look at all of its flagships programmes, not a single one has been fully completed and smoothly running.” He explained.
