22 communities in the Bolgatanga East District of Upper East Region have been earmarked to be connected to the national grid under the Rural Electrification Project.

The newly created district is the only assembly with the highest number of communities in the region to be covered under the project.

Among these communities includes Kantia, Dachio, Sakote, Gambibgo and Kumbosigo.

This was made known by District Chief Executive of the area, Reverend Emmanuel Abugre Abole during the assembly’s maiden town hall meeting. The town hall meeting was for the assembly to account to the people of the area since its creation.

“For those whose communities I have not mentioned, rest assured that you would be included because I have the fiat for other areas not covered to be catered for by the contractor”, according to the DCE.

In order to enhance the security situation in the district, he said some 100 street lamps have been secured from the Ministry of Energy.

The DCE during the meeting touted the assembly’s achievements in the area of agriculture, health, education, water and sanitation since its creation.

Speaking on a newly built Zuarungu market which has been abandoned for years, Rev. Abole remarked that the market has not met the approved specification. Nonetheless, he said it will soon be made available for use “to shore up IGF of the district”.
