Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency in the Upper East Region, Edward Abambire Bawa has been elected parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Bawa obtained 590 votes beating his only contender in the race, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya who secured just 291 votes. 5 votes out of the total votes cast were rejected.
In a message of acceptance, Mr. Bawa thanked the delegates for reposing confidence in him to lead the party in the constituency. He also thanked his competitor, Dr. Akumperigya for a good fight and called on members of the party to remain united in order to retain the seat come 2020.

Tonight in this election, the people of Bongo remind us all, that irrespective of our collective challenges, we know in our hearts that for our beautiful constituency the best is yet to come.
I will want to thank every delegate who participated in this election. Whether you voted for me or for my brother Rainer, you made a difference.
Dr. Rainer Akumperigya just called and congratulated me. I really do appreciate that. May I also congratulate him and his team for a hard-fought campaign. We may have battled fiercely but is only because we both love Bongo deeply and we care so strongly about its future.
In the coming weeks I hope to sit with Dr. Akumperigya and other key members of our great party to see how we can unite our front as a party to ensure victory come 2020.
To my campaign team, your are the best in the business. Some of you were new this time around, and others have been by my side since 2010. But all of you are family. You will carry the memory of the history we have made together and you will have the life-long appreciation from a grateful MP for now and A parliamentary candidate for 2020. Thank you for believing in me.
To the constituency executives, you were good at your Job. You offered a level playing field for my brother and myself. God bless you.
To the elders of our party, you provided the necessary counseling to ensure that we had an incident-free election. May the Lord bless you and Keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
And to all members of NDC in the constituency, the party can only count on your continuous support. May the good Lord keep us united. For in unity, the NPP will definitely fall not only in the constituency but in the country as a whole.
