Tamale: Police arrest 11 sex traders

Police in the northern region have apprehended 11 female suspects believed to be trading in sex in the Tamale metropolis. A special operation with the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Ghana Police Service raided some communities in the metropolis where these suspects operate.

The Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong said the operation ensued police intelligence gathered. According to him, the suspects arrested are believed to be soliciting and engage in prostitution.

He disclosed to Journalists that, a gentleman was also arrested during the operation for wielding a locally manufactured pistol. Mr. Acheampong further noted some of the female suspects are non Ghanaians and therefore, preliminary investigations are underway to establish that.

He stated: “and then when we establish that they are non Ghanaians and for that matter, they don’t have the requisite legitimacy to live in Ghana; we will collaborate with our immigration partners to take it from there.”

The Regional Crime Officer warned the police is waging a relentless war against lawlessness and impunity in the region. He stated the police have declared war on criminal who perpetuate crime frown by the laws of Ghana.

“We are continuing with this operation unabated” Mr. Otuo Acheampong stressed.
