I will do more human rights stories – A1 Radio’s Chidozie Stephen

The producer of A1 Radio’s flag shift programme, DayBreak Upper East, Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen, has hinted he will do more human rights stories in the coming years with the aim of drawing the attention of duty bearers to the plight of victims of human rights abuses.

Speaking to A1radioonline.com after he was adjudged the Best Human Rights reporter in the maiden Upper East Ghana Journalists Association Awards on December 14, 2019, said he sees the award as a challenge for him to do more.

NgamegbulamChidozieStephen, who consistently reported on Human Rights issues the region,  was declared winner at the the maiden Upper East GJA Awards night held at Ganass Hotel in Bolgatanga on December 14, 2019.

The story that won him the award was a story on his initiative to construct a disability friendly stairway at the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs in Bolgatanga.

Still on human rights, Mr. Ngamegbulam visited some basic schools in the region to unravel the misery of pupils learning under inhumane conditions. These conditions deeply affected the academic performance of the children.

The Upper East Regional Chairman of GJA Mr. Eric Kwadjo Amoh, during his address called on journalists in the region to desist from reportage that could breach the peace of the region.

He also called on authorities including the government to find lasting solution to the protracted chieftaincy dispute in Bolgatanga.

President of GJA, Mr. Affail Monney, who graced the awards programme acknowledged the theme for the celebration was “an act of perfect timing as the country goes to the polls next year. He said it was important for media practitioners to prepare and respond appropriately to the expectations of  Ghanaians and the world at large.

Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency Mr. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka who doubles as the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, challenged Ghanaian journalists to act and show examples as agents of social change to unravel the  bad things in society for an enabling peace and national development.

Other awardees included Anthony Adongo Apubeo (GNA), Best Child Rights Reporter,

Mrs. Fatima Anafu-Astanga (GNA) best Environment and Sanitation reporter and best Business and Financial Reporter, Joshua Asaah (A1 Radio), Best Agriculture Reporter,

The rest are Isaac Asare (GBC), Best Health Reporter and Best Domestic Tourism Reporter, Stephen NgamegbulamChidozie (A1 Radio), Best Human Rights Reporter, Albert Sore (Joynews), Best Investigative Reporter, Senyalah Castro (Atinka Media Village), Best Gender and Disability Reporter and Nelson Abagna (GBC), Best Sports Reporter and GodfredPolkuu (GNA), Most promising journalist.

Tanga Radio bagged Best Social Program Radio Station of the year award whiles GBC Ura Radio, Bolgatanga was adjudged the Best Radio Station of the year.

Chiefs, District Chief Executives, National GJA Executives and other notable dignitaries graced the awards ceremony.
