The Administrator at the Ghana Ambulance Service in the Upper East Region, Awuni Alibaba has expressed worry over inadequacy of staff and laments it will put huge burden on the on only 89 personnel.

He says, “Then, we were having seven ambulances in the region, but with the new ones, in fact, the burden will be high because ideally, an ambulance requires at least nine personnel. Unfortunately for us, we have just four personnel to each station. We don’t even know how we will run a shift system for now.”

Mr. Awuni says aside his office and the control room, the total number of personnel that are manning the various ambulance stations in the region is only 89.

He also says, “Yes, we are constrained with personnel which means that the region runs short of 70-80 personnel which could have helped in the smooth running of the service.”

The administrator made this known to a section of the media in Bolgatanga on Thursday January 30, 2020 when Upper East Regional Coordinating Council received and redistributed 15 ambulances to all the 15 constituencies in the region.

Upper East Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Winfred Ofosu, described as a relief, the presence of the ambulances in the region as he is optimistic they will go a long way to help reduce the incidence of premature death in the region.

Municipal and District Chief Executives in the fifteen assemblies in the region were present to receive the ambulance on behalf of their ambulance centers.
