Some residents in Bolgatanga East District have complained that they have been exposed to health hazards due to the construction of the Bolga-Bawku-Pulmakom road.

The residents, some of whom trade on the shoulders of the road said the dust which emanates from the road construction was affecting livelihood due to low sales they record since the construction of the road approached the regional capital, Bolgatanga.

Anafo Grace who operates a laundry shop along the road in Kumbosgo said her regular customers do not visit the shop again because of the dusty nature of the shop.

“I didn’t make sales today, even 1 cedi and I didn’t get because the customers think when they come and I wash, the dust will spoil their cloths”, she indicated.

Another trader, Monica Apewe who called for a fast track of work on the road lamented saying that “costumers don’t want to stop here and buy things from us again because of the dusty nature of the road”.

But the Resident Engineer of Queroz Galvao M I, a construction firm on the road, Peter Dagadu said his outfit constantly water the road but the climatic condition of the Upper East region is a challenge anytime they water the road to reduce the dust.

“We water the road at least 3 times in a day. The problem with this region is, the heat is so extreme that when you water, it dries up quickly”.
