The coalition of NGOs in Health says,It was expecting President Nana Akufo Addo to extend the partial lockdown in the country as part of measures in dealing with the spread of Coronavirus.

According to the Coalition, there was the need for if not a total nationwide lockdown, an extension of it because of the weak system of health in Ghana.

The Coalition has pontificated that most health facilities in the country lack the requisite materials to combat the virus if the situation escalates.

The response followed an announcement by President Akufo Addo during a televised address to the nations that ,the partial lockdown has been relaxed on grounds of stringent measures and data backed with scientific indicators to tackle further outbreak of the disease.

But Upper East Regional Chairman of Coalition of NGOs in health in a radio interview on A1 Radio lamented that the decision to lift the ban was ill thought and borne out of political expediency.

“Are you amazed  that he has lifted the ban ? I’m not amazed because this current administration is focusing on December 7,2020.That is their focus ,that is their priority, nothing else.It is about time we spoke the truth than to be hypocrites. We should tell the President in his eyes this particular policy is  counterproductive ,retrogressive and it doesn’t inure to the benefit of the ordinary Ghanaian, the downtrodden . How can you be lifting the movement now? It is too early ! too early ! Health professionals are already overstretched . Even you don’t have common PPEs  and you are lifting this ban ,can you imagine what will happen in the not distanced  future? So President’s motive is not far fetch ,he is looking at the December elections ,that’s all” he lamented.
