Assistant Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Stephen Abugri has stated that player exodus from the local scene should be blamed on poverty.

Speaking in an interview with A1 Radio, the coach lamented that players in our local leagues are poorly remunerated, their healthcare is not the best and teams run the daily administration from monies gained from the sale of players hence informing moves of players from the local scene.

He lamented that with the height of poverty in the country, players capitalize on opportunities when they come their way because they have families to cater for.

“Look if you are taking 200 cedis in Ghana and you get an offer of two hundred million will you stay or leave?” The coach questioned.

Asked on the way forward to arrest the situation and keep the interest of players in the local league, the coach answered, “the organizers of the league should make the league attractive and that will draw sponsors who will pump money into the league and that will help keep the players on the local scene and also make the league attractive.”
