A non-denominational outreach group with the calling to preach the gospel, mostly in the rural areas of the Upper East, Northern and Upper West regions, has made its widow’s mite presentation of assorted items to God’s Love Ministry Foster Centre at Soe in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

Started in April 2013 with five core executive members, the Power Outreach Team has used crusades, evangelism and Christian movies to reach out to communities where most people have still not embraced the Gospel of Christ.  They have also visited some Senior High Schools and formed campus ministries, and as well organised church workers training for local church leaders.

Some of these programmes have been organised at Yikeni, Balungu, Wulugu, and Nyariga. As part of their planned programmes for the rest of the year, members of the team, led by its President, Mr. John Osman, visited God’s Love Foster Centre with the aim of praying with the inmates, playing and providing for them.  On the sidelines, however, they also presented some assorted food and toiletry items to the centre. The items included 3 mini bags of rice, 2 gallons of cooking oil, biscuits, ‘Keta school boys’ and toiletries.

In an interview, the President stated that the focus of the team is not limited to a particular Christian denomination, but to spread the gospel as Jesus Christ urged the early days Christians to do, by evangelising to the whole world, praying for the sick and helping the neglected in society. Responding to the question of how the activities of the team are funded, Mr. Osman said it was through the benevolent support of the core team members/executives. They make contributions to fund the team’s outreach activities.

The executive members include John Osman as President, Albert Atanga, Outreach Director, John Fedelis, Organiser, Felicia Awane, Secretary, and Abongo Peter, Financial Secretary.  Apart from contributions from the team members, the President also said friends and family members sometimes offered support to the team. Mr. Osman hinted that in August this year, its members would be at Tumu in the Upper West Region for a revival service.

There would also be evangelism at Azumsum in October. Other programmes scheduled within the year include crusades and video shows.  A Co-Director of God’s Love Ministry Foster Centre, Mr. Felix Akampoi, was grateful to the donors for the items and prayers for the kids, and appealed to other individuals and organisations to also help. He said out of the total of 30 children the centre is taking care of, 11 of them are residents, while the rest live in the community and come to feed at the centre.

All of them, except the very little ones, have their school fees paid for by the centre. The inmates are made up of 21 boys and 9 girls. Mr. Akampoi mentioned malnutrition in the inmates as the major challenge confronting the centre. Malaria and typhoid fever are diseases which mostly disturb the children.
