Tangoba Abayage has made an indelible mark in the political history of Upper East Region in the just ended Parliamentary Primaries of the New Patriotic Party.
She has become the first female Regional Minister since the creation of the region. Tangoba is also the first female parliamentary aspirant and Candidate in the political history of NPP in Navrongo Central Constituency since 1992.
The vibrancy and firmness of Tangoba Abayage in national politics has been likened to women icons in politics such as ;Hawa Ogede Yakubu of blessed memory.
Madam Hawa Yakubu is remembered for her agility and outspoken nature at the time women had no voice in the Ghanaian politics and leadership.
She served as a Member of Parliament in the Fourth Republic of Ghana and also served as Minister for Tourism under the NPP.
After her demise, the political activeness and leadership crave by women in politics dwindled in the Upper East Region until the surfacing of Tangoba Abayage into the scene.
But the activeness and leadership style of Tangoba Abayage from her appointment as Ambassador to Italy by President Nana Akufo-Addo to the position of Regional Minister,brought fragrance of the late Hawa Yakubu to those who know the impact she brought to the region.
Tangoba known as the “LIONESS” has defied all odds to secure her bid to lead the people of Navrongo Central constituency in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
She deflated incumbent Member of Parliament and Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda by 307 votes against 269 out of the 587 votes cast by delegates yesterday.
It has become a shock to many in the political arena because, Kofi Adda has been considered a “political tin god” in Navrongo Central. He is known for his political mafia tactics against opponents during elections and it was surprising he could not survive the heat of Tangoba Abayage .
Some jubilant delegates and party supporters wailed in happiness with expressions that “ Navrongo Central is now free from bondage and the hands of Kofi Adda” .
When asked why such remarks ,they said “ Our MP has oppressed and intimidated as for long and we thank God for this breakthrough. Tangoba Abayage is a God sent and we are happy she has won , 2020 is secured for the NPP!.
Meanwhile, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister and incumbent MP for Zebila , Frank Fusieni Adongo has secured his candidature against Dr. John Kingsley Krugu to face the NDC Candidate , Cletus Avoka who is a known “old bone “ in the Ghanaian politics.
Deputy Attorney General,Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has been acclamated in Tempane Constituency.
The NPP currently occupies 3seats out 15 Constituencies in the Upper East Region and the 2020 general elections is expected to be crucial for the NPP with a target of sweeping majority of the seats in the region.
