Divisional Command inaugurated in Bolgantanga,Police call for public support

A new Divisional Police Command has been inaugurated in Bolgantanga of the Upper East Region to augment the dispensing of public security and safety.

A Police Division is a territorial subdivision of the regional command into blocks made of few police districts for efficient command and control.

The new division will now supervise Bolgantanga,Bongo, Zuarungu and Tongo districts.

In his speech during the inauguration, Upper East Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Ampofo Duku described the establishment of the division as a “landmark and historic”.

He stated that being able to establish a Divisional Police Command in the Upper East Region has been a herculean task that has yielded results.

The Commander added that the Bolgantanga Division has become the second in the region in the Ghana Police Service and called for public support to make the work of the police service easier.

But the Divisional Police Commander , Chief Superintendent Della Dzansi noted that “As a new Division,with passion for contemporary policing system,you will during the next few months get to know more about our different initiatives through planned activities which shall include;augmenting the strength of the districts ,the creation of Domestic Violence and victim support unit ,a quick response patrol unit to respond to violent and also protect the volatile”.

He added that “Knowing well the problems of the Bolgatanga Central enclave is bedeviled with,it is also our intention to work tirelessly in collaboration with various stakeholders including regional peace council to gain sustainable peace for the area. The Divisional Command has also taken cognizance of other heinous crime being perpetrated and will take appropriate steps to address them”.

Chf. Sup. Della Dzansi has however lamented about lack of logistics and inadequate personnel for the division and called for support from the relevant authorities and the public.
