Communication Team Member of the governing New Patriotic Party, Richard Asante has said, the opposition National Democratic Congress running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang does not have charisma and intellectual ability to contest Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s record to secure victory for the NDC in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
According to him, the appointment of Jane Opoku-Agyemang as a running mate by the NDC was a misplaced achievement which will keep the party in opposition as the party’s chances of winning the 2020 general election remains bleak.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Morning Show, Mr. Asante said, the appointment of Naana Opoku-Agyemang was a strategy to protect John Mahama’s candidature for 2024 and not to win the 2020 elections.
He reiterated that, Ghanaians will vote massively to retain the NPP in the 2020 general elections considering the party’s numerous pro-poor interventions that have transformed the livelihoods of many Ghanaians.
Mr. Asante accused Jane Opoku-Agyemang of been behind the scrapping of teachers and nursing trainee allowances brought untold hardship to trainees and their parents.
“She was involved in activities that did not bring benefit to the ordinary Ghanaian during her time of office as the Education minister. Imagine the number of these youthful teachers and nurses who suffered in her hands. So, NDC cannot compare Madam Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang to Dr. Bawumia.
Mr. Mahama chose Prof. Jane, not because of the 2020 elections but wanted someone who does not have any political ambitions that may compete him come in 2024 ˮ.
Mr. Asante admonished teachers and final year students to follow the safety protocols given by the government as the surest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
