Akwasi Appiah Names 24-Man Squad for AFCON Qualifier

Headcoach for the senior men’s national team, the Black stars, has named a 24-man squad ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifier against Uganda and Togo.

Jeffery Schlupp and David Accam who missed the World Cup because they were not world class players made it for the 24-man squad whereas big names like Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, K P Boateng and Kwarasey have been axed.

Ghana takes on Uganda on the 5th September in Kumasi and Togo the following weekend in Lome.

Ghana Squad:

Goalkeepers: Fatau Dauda(Chippa United), Adams Stephen(Aduana Stars) and Razak Braimah(Mirandes FC)

Defenders: Daniel Opare(FC Porto), Harrison Afful(Esperance FC), Awal Mohammed(Maritzburg), Baba Rahman(FC Augsburg), Jeffery Schulpp (Leicester City), John Boye (Erciyesspor FC), Jonathan Mensah(Evian FC).

Midfielders: Emmanuel Agyemang Badu(Udinese), Rabiu Mohammed(Krasnodar), Yusif Chibsah(Sassuolo), Kwadwo Asamoah(Juventus), Mubarak Wakaso(Rubin Karzan), Atsu Christian(Everton), Asante Solomon(T.P Mazembe FC), Gyimah Edwin(Black Aces), Afriyie Acquah(Parma FC) and Andre Ayew(Olympique Marseille).

Strikers: Asamoah Gyan(Al Ain), Jordan Ayew(Lorient), Abdul Majeed Waris(Spartak Moscow) and David Accam(Helsenborg).
