As part of his yearly preparation of educational materials to candidates of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Member of Parliament for Nabdam in the Upper East Region, Dr Kurt Nawaane, has donated 800 exercise books and 800 mathematical sets to the Nabdam District Education Service for distribution to the candidates.

Dr Kurt Nawaane made the donation on Thursday September 3, 2020 at the District office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Kongo.

Addressing officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and community members at a ceremony to present the items,, Dr. Nawaane said he always uses part of his GETFund  but unfortunately, the Assembly has not been helpful by assisting or appreciating his initiative.

According to him, his interest over the years has been to make sure BECE candidates in the district are motivated before taking their BECE, to enable them successfully.

“Since 2015, on a yearly basis, I have assisted the District Directorate to carry out their mock exams for the final year students. Indeed, 2015 I wasn’t an MP, but I still remembered I donated about Ghc 5000.00 from my own pocket to assist. And since I became [the MP], I have carried this burden using part of my GETFund and I must say that in this case, Assembly has not been helpful to us, because this burden has been left on me as the Member of Parliament.”

The Nabdam District Education Director, Timothy Yournuo, who received the items, expressed satisfaction especially with the level of support and care the MP continuously offers the GES and students in the constituency.

“I am so happy on behalf of the directorate, to stand this morning before the honorable MP to receive these items for the good of education in Nabdam District. I must say, this is yearly ritual since I took over from my predecessor. The honorable has always been there for us as far as education is concerned. Anytime we appeal to him for assistance, he is always there and this year, he had sponsored mock exam for our candidates to prepare them for the upcoming BECE. Honorable, we are so grateful that you have education at heart”. He said

Meanwhile, the MP also supported GES with 200 tables and 200 chairs to be shared to schools in the District.
