The Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency, Dr Mark-Kurt Nawaane, has committed GH¢132,000 to support 132 tertiary students from the constituency with their educational expenses.
The students were identified and interviewed during an exercise held from August 31 to September 6, 2026, with beneficiaries drawn from all 55 branches of the Nabdam Constituency.
Chiefs, traditional authorities, opinion leaders and Assembly Members were involved in identifying potential beneficiaries from communities across the constituency.
Of the 132 students selected, 62 are pursuing health-related programmes, while the remaining 70 are studying disciplines including Law, Education, Engineering and Mining, Agriculture and other programmes.
Each beneficiary is expected to receive financial assistance to help meet expenses associated with tertiary education.
Dr Nawaane said the intervention forms part of his efforts to support education and invest in the development of young people in the constituency.
The support is expected to help beneficiaries meet expenses including tuition, accommodation, learning materials and other educational costs.
The involvement of traditional and community leaders in the selection process, according to organisers, was intended to ensure that beneficiaries were drawn from different parts of the constituency.
Health screening for five communities
Alongside the educational support, Dr Nawaane also organised a health screening exercise for residents of five communities in the Nabdam Constituency.
The exercise was held in Sekoti, Nangodi, Logre, Gundork and Pelungu and focused on preventive healthcare and the early identification of potential health conditions.
Residents underwent eye examinations, blood pressure checks and diabetes screening. They were also provided with basic health advice and guidance based on concerns identified during the exercise.
The screening formed part of efforts to provide residents, particularly those who may not routinely undergo medical examinations, with an opportunity to check their health status and seek further medical attention where necessary.
The educational support and community health screening form part of interventions being undertaken by the MP across the constituency.
