The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bolgatanga East Constituency in the Upper East Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that supporters of his opponent, Rev. Emmanuel Abugre Abole, the Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are saying they are sure of his victory going into the December 7 elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio in reacting to claims by the Personal Aid to the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, that the dominance of the NDC in the constituency was over, Dr. Ayine said his political opponents were unaware of the issues on the ground.

According to him, “Maybe they are living on a different planet. They are not living in Bolgatanga East.”

He continued that “Even their own members tell me that as far as the parliamentary elections are concern, they know it’s a done deal for me. Their own members are telling me this.”

Giving reasons for his confidence in retaining the parliamentary seat, Dr. Ayine said the constituents, in the last two terms of his leadership have witnessed significant progress in the constituency.

He cited rural electrification, water projects, educational and health infrastructure as part of the major interventions he had undertaken in the constituency.

“We won the last election by almost 72 percent. Now are you telling me that the NPP is going to use 2 years of Abole’s occupancy of the position of DCE to overturn a victory of 72 percent? That is politically impossible. Unless I am so disliked by the people; unless I have done things that are so outrageous and the people are angry with me. They may eat into the 72 percent but they cannot win the seat.” He stressed.
